Editor's Note: Many students have been waiting for International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to announce the availability of paper copies of income tax forms and instructions. While some critical forms and instructions have not yet been received, the ISSS is working hard to have what has been received available for pick up early this week. Please watch your e-mail for an announcement, hopefully no later than Tuesday.
ISSS has also encountered some technical difficulties in getting the income tax workshops available for on-line viewing. They hope to have at least the New York State Income Tax Workshop available later this week, for students who filed federal form 1040NR EZ. Again, watch your e-mail for an announcement. ISSS thanks students for their patience while staff work through these difficulties.
ISSS-BU News will continue to publish income tax articles throughout tax season. Also, helpful information is available in the “Taxes” section of the ISSS website, at the following link: http://isss.binghamton.edu/taxes/index.html

4. USCIS Announces Revised Form I-765 Application for Employment Including OPT. Previous Versions of the Form will not be Accepted After March 30, 2007
US Citizenship and Immigration Services has revised for I-765, Application for Employment. This form is used for a number of different kinds of employment applications, including Optional Practical Training, and for J-2 dependents.
The current form, which the ISSS has been including in its Optional Practical Training (OPT) packets, will be accepted by USCIS only until March 30, 2007 (the application must be received at the USCIS Service Center on or before that date). Any employment applications received at the USCIS Service Center after March 30, 2007 must include the new form, otherwise the entire application will be returned to the applicant.
If you already have an OPT packet from the ISSS, check the date on the bottom right of the form I-765 Application for Employment Authorization. If the date reads (Rev. 02/08/07)N you have the newest version of the form. If any other date appears, you have an older version.
To obtain the newest version, go to the following link: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-765.pdf
This is a ten-page pdf file. You will need Adobe Acrobat or some other pdf viewer to download it. You need only print page 10.
The ISSS will be updating its OPT packets this week to be sure that the newest version of the form is made available to students.

For those of you who will need to file a New York State tax return (watch for the upcoming web income tax workshop that explains who needs to file a New York State return), you may prefer to print your New York State tax forms on the computer rather than handwrite them.
